Ghana’s President John Mahama makes U-turn to reject election results

ACCRA – The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has on Tuesday morning rejected the outcome of the country’s December 7 polls.

The President had earlier on conceded defeat and congratulated the leader of the main opposition Nana Addo Danquah for his victory.

According to John Mahama, instances of over-voting have been spotted in various constituencies in the strongholds of the opposition which he thinks bloated the figures in the New Patriotic Party’s favor.

“If we consider the excess number of votes cast against the margin he’s [Nana Addo] is leading, it is possible to overturn the outcome of the results.” – He said in a statement.

The statement added that, the ruling National Democratic Congress would immediately challenge the results in court to seek for re-election and also place an injunction on the inauguration of a new president until court finally rules.

Gambian’s longest ruling leader Jammeh also made u-turn to reject election results after conceding defeat.
